A water main break forced some traffic changes for vehicles heading to the trauma center at Genesis East hospital in Davenport, Iowa.
A Genesis spokesperson said a six-inch water main broke Monday morning, July 9, 2012 at Grand Court and Bridge Avenue.
To keep a safe path open for ambulances, hospital officials ask motorists trying to get to the Genesis East to approach the building from the south. Ambulances are the only vehicles that should enter from the north until repairs are made.
The water main break involves a line which supplies water to the hospital, but two other lines supply water to the hospital so all facilities, including the emergency room, remained open.
Signs are also posted to help direct traffic around the water main repair work.
The broken water main was expected to affect water customers on Grand Court from Bridge to Grand Avenue; on East Rusholme from Bridge to Grand Avenue; on Cary from Grand to Rusholme and on Bridge Avenue from High to Rusholme.
A spokesperson for Iowa American Water said repair work was slowed while crews worked to locate additional valves to reduce the flow of water to allow repairs. Residents in the affected areas may notice reduced water pressure. No boil order was issued.
Repairs were expected to be completed sometime Monday evening.
