Driver identified after fatal crash near Port Byron

UPDATED: A single-vehicle rollover crash ended with the death of the driver of an SUV east of Port Byron, Illinois.

A single-vehicle rollover crash ended with the death of the driver of an SUV east of Port Byron, Illinois.

The wreck was reported at about 10 p.m. Saturday, July 7, 2012 on 228th Street at 101st Avenue North.

Illinois State Police said a 2002 GMC Denali was traveling on 228th Street at a high rate of speed when the driver lost control as it entered the curve at 101st Avenue North. 

The driver was later identified as 30-year-old Patrick Sutton of Port Byron. 

The Denali went off the road, struck a utility post.  It then rolled and struck a tree before it came to rest.

Sutton was the only occupant in the Denali.  He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The Rock Island County Coroner said Sutton suffered a traumatic head injury in the crash. 

The crash was one of three fatal wrecks that happened Saturday, July 7, 2012 in Rock Island County.
