Davenport firefighters slammed by weekend fires

A Davenport, Iowa family escaped safely after their house caught fire Sunday morning, July 8, 2012.

A Davenport, Iowa family escaped safely after their house caught fire Sunday morning, July 8, 2012.

It happened in the 2800 block of Tremont Road.  It was reportedly the third fire in Davenport in two days.

Firefighters said heavy smoke and flames were coming from the back of the house when they arrived.

The fire was quickly brought under control, but not before it did some damage to the exterior of a neighboring home.

The Red Cross of the Quad Cities offered food, clothing, shelter and infant supplies to two adults and four children displaced after the Sunday morning fire.  A spokesperson said the organization helped 14 families affected by fires over the weekend.
