Update: The identities of three people killed in separate Rock Island County crashes were released Monday, July 9, 2012.
Motorcyclist Earl Garriott Jr., 47, of Davenport, Iowa died as a result of injuries he suffered when he apparently failed to negotiate a curve at 256th Street and 129th Avenue in Port Byron, Illinois. Investigators said Garriott was not wearing a helmet. The Rock Island County Coroner ruled the cause of his death was traumatic head injury.
Pedestrian Ronald Marks, 35, of Rock Island, Illinois died after he was struck by a vehicle in the 500 block of Bolster Court on Campbell's Island in East Moline, Illinois. The Rock Island County Coroner said Marks suffered traumatic injuries to his chest and abdomen.
Patrick Sutton, 30, of Port Byron, Illinois died after he lost control and crashed the GMC Denali he was driving in Port Byron. The Rock Island County Coroner said Sutton suffered traumatic head injury in the crash.
Original story Saturday, July 7, 2012:
Three fatal car crashes happened on Saturday in Rock Island County alone.
The first happened near the intersection of 256th Street and 129th Avenue in Port Byron. A motorcycle failed to get around a curve and ran off the road. The driver, a 46-year-old man from Davenport, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The passenger, a 23-year-old female from Hillsdale suffered non-life threatening injuries.
The second happened around 8 pm in the 500 Block of Bolster Court in East Moline. A 35-year-old pedestrian was stuck by a male driver, also 35 years old. The pedestrian was pronounced dead a short time later at a local hospital.
The third accident happened around 10 pm at 228th Street at 101st Avenue North, just east of Port Byron. According to Illinois State Police, a GMC Denali was traveling at a high speed when the driver lost control.
The driver was the only person in the car and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Rock Island Coroner.
All accidents are still under investigation.
