Davenport, Iowa is ranked one of the most inviting riverfronts along the Mississippi River.

That’s according to the July/August issue of Big River Magazine – which follows the lead of the Mississippi Valley Traveler website.

The sites ranked Minneapolis tops on the list, with Davenport rated second.

Davenport gets high marks for public parks and multi-use trails along the river.  Festivals, the easy walk to nearby attractions and restaurants, and easy access also boosted Davenport to near the top of the list.

“The city has resisted efforts to hide the downtown area behind a flood wall or levee, ensuring that the city’s connection to the river remains palpable, through good times and bad. Moline (Illinois) has similar strengths, but the newer developments along the river near downtown break up the continuity and have cut off river access in places,” said the Mississippi Traveler site.

The lists rate these as the top-five most inviting riverfronts on the Mississippi:
1. Minneapolis

2. Davenport

3. Lake City, Minnesota

4. Bellevue, Iowa and Guttenberg, Iowa (tie)

5. LaCrosse, Wisconsin

This comes on the heels of Budget Travel naming Davenport, Iowa as one of the top 11 riverfronts in the nation.
