Former inmate sues Bureau County
A former Bureau County Jail inmate filed a federal lawsuit claiming he received improper medical care while he was in custody there.
The Bureau County Republican reports Arick Buckles, 40, of Chicago, Illinois filed the lawsuit in federal court in Peoria.
Buckles was held for one week in the Bureau County Jail after he was arrested in the fall of 2010 on an outstanding warrant for allegedly passing bad checks. His lawsuit claims he was denied his prescription medications for HIV while he was a Bureau County inmate.
An Associated Press report said the Illinois Department of Corrections previously looked into the matter and found no violations.
