Scott County is being awarded for 25 years of auditing excellence. The county is one of two in the state to be awarded “The Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting” by the Government Finance Officers Association.
Their high rating affects tax payers in a positive way. It means they are less likely to raise taxes and have a grasp of what tax base they have to access. And also means fewer surprises for the tax payers.
“We don’t want surprises and with what happened in Dixon, Illinois. There is a system with checks and balances and we do believe in a good financial statements and a good audit and to help make sure that we are doing what we are supposed to be doing,” CPA and Scott County Budget Manager, David Farmer says.
Scott County also received the highest award for their governmental budgeting. The only other county to receive the award was Linn County.
