Two Iowa boys reportedly drowned in central Iowa Monday, June 18, 2012.

WHO-TV reports ten-year-old Andres Favela drowned when he was swimming with friends, went under water and never resurfaced.  It happened just after 7:30 p.m. near the North Center Street Dam on the Iowa River in Marshalltown.  The boy’s body was pulled from the water Tuesday.

Seventeen-year-old Kevin Kong drowned when he swam past safety buoys and then began struggling in the water at Raccoon River Beach in West Des Moines.    That incident was reported just before 5 p.m.  The teen’s body was found at about 6:30 p.m.

The incidents follow a tragic weekend for more area families after a five-year-old child fell into a slough in rural Illinois City Saturday, June 16.  An Iowa man died when two boats collided in the Des Moines River on Father’s Day.   An Ames, Iowa police sergeant drowned that same afternoon at Lake Geode in Henry County, Iowa.
