The Senate late yesterday broke a deadlock that had threatened to bring down the $500-billion Farm Bill.
Tuesday, Senators will start voting on 73-amendments that both parties agreed to debate for the bill that sets farm policy over the next five years.
One amendment still would require means testing for federal crop insurance.
The proposed bill still eliminates direct payments to farmers. That's expected to save more than $23-billion over the next ten years.
A full vote on the Farm Bill could come this week.
Crops Wilting
DES MOINES, Iowa - More and more farmers are being affected by the dry weather in Iowa and Illinois.
The latest farm survey shows more than 70-percent of all farmers in Iowa and Illinois say soil moisture is short to very short in their fields.
In Illinois farmers say the rain we've seen did not significantly alter crop conditions.
Two-thirds of Iowa farmers say their corn crop is still in good to excellent condition.
Only about half of Illinois farmers say the same.
First County Fair Begins
CAMBRIDGE, Illinois - The first of the county fairs kicks off Tuesday.
Today is opening day of the Henry County Fair in Cambridge.
Judging starts at eight with the Open Barrow and Open Sheep show. Open Lamb judging is at two this afternoon.
The exhibit halls and midway opens at one.
Tuesday night, on the grandstand, it's the Miss Henry County Fair pageant.
