Teen arrested for Burlington shooting

A 16-year-old was arrested and accused of attempted murder in the shooting of another teen in Burlington, Iowa.

A 16-year-old was arrested and accused of attempted murder in the shooting of another teen in Burlington, Iowa.

Luis Sanders-Galvez, 18, of Burlington, was shot Friday, June 15, 2012.  The shooting was reported just before 9:30 p.m. near Market and Main streets in Burlington. 

Sanders-Galvez suffered a single gunshot wound and remained hospitalized Monday.   

A 16-year-old from Ft. Madison, Iowa, faces charges in the case of attempted murder and willful injury.  He was also charged in juvenile court with going armed with intent.  Police said that charge was waived to adult court. 

Police said they recovered a stolen handgun when they arrested the suspect at the Burlington Police Department Monday, June 18, 2012. 

The suspect was awaiting his initial court appearance.  He was held in the Des Moines County jail in lieu of $35,000 bond.
