QC Triathlon closes streets Saturday

Six hundred participants are expected for the 13th Annual Quad Cities Triathlon Saturday morning, June 16, 2012.

Motorists are asked to avoid the area around West Lake Park.  Roads will be closed and detours in place throughout the duration of the race, from before 7 a.m. to at least 10:30 a.m.

Closures include:

110th Avenue closed between 141st Place and 160th Street

160th Street between 110th Avenue and 70th Avenue

70th Avenue from 145th Street to 190th Street

Spectators are encouraged to park at new Life Baptist Church, 7780 West Locust Street.  From there, a shuttle is available to the park between 5 and 6:45 a.m.

The race starts at 7 a.m. at the beach in West Lake Park. 

The triathlon involves a 600-yard swim, 15-mile bike and 3.1-mile run.

The awards ceremony begins at about 10:30 a.m. after the last person finishes the race.  First place overall male and female win $200 each.  Second place male and female win $100 each and third place male and female win $50 each.   Several other awards will be presented.
