A group of Quad City men gathered along the Mississippi riverfront to take a stand against domestic violence.

Flowers on the River is an annual event held by the Quad Cities Elephant Club.

They call themselves “ordinary men striving to put an end to domestic violence.

Every year, members gather along the river to drop roses into the water and read the names of area women who were killed as a result of domestic violence.

The roses honor the victims.

"It is a men's problem.  That's why we do this, as the Elephant Club, the elephant male is the mentor, the protector, and is one for the youth,” said member Chris Spencer.

On average, three women are murdered by their husbands or boyfriends in the U.S. every day.
