A Long Grove, Iowa woman was sentenced to probation and home confinement for forging checks from her employer.

Karol Mae McCaughey, 39, worked as an office manager for Aero Plumbing and Heating.  About 15 years after she began working for that company, McCaughey began forging her supervisor’s signature on checks written to herself from the company.

Prosecutors said McCaughey wrote approximately 60 forged checks totaling more than $40,000 over a period of two years.

McCaughey disguised the payments by adding purchases to the company’s QuickBooks ledger.

McCaughey was sentenced in federal court June 14, 2012 to five years of probation including six months of home confinement.
