A Knox County man faces criminal charges after he allegedly fired a .357 Magnum handgun at two 13-year-old girls in a pickup truck.

Police said Todd Stenger, 43, told them he saw a pickup truck backing out of his driveway in rural Maquon, Illinois just before 11 p.m. Monday, June 11, 2012.

Stenger reportedly believed the truck belonged to burglars and he “fired multiple shots at the truck as it drove away from him down the road,” according to police.

The driver of the truck lost control and drove into a ditch about 100 yards down the road.  The truck was damaged by gunshots.

Police later learned the only people in the truck were two 13-year-old Galesburg girls who had taken the truck for a joy ride from a nearby camping area.  The truck belongs to a relative of one of the girls.

Stenger was arrested and charged with two counts of reckless discharge of a firearm and one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm.  Stenger was released from jail Wednesday, June 13 after he posted the required ten-percent of his $100,000 bond.

Neither of the girls was hurt.
