UPDATED:  Emergency calls to 911, rerouted after a phone service outage in the Dubuque area, were restored to normal operations Tuesday afternoon, June 12, 2012.

The 911 calls were rerouted to Cedar Falls after a phone service outage affected 911 service in Dubuque.

Residents were still able to call 911, but their calls were rerouted.

“Area residents who currently have cellular and landline service who need emergency assistance should call 911. Residents who have an emergency and do not have phone service should go to their nearest fire station or law enforcement agency for assistance,” said a statement on the City of Dubuque website.

Regular 911 service was restored by about 3:30 p.m.
