Their new $14 million junior high is complete. Now, Silvis School District
leaders are getting ready to start the next phase of construction for their new elementary school.

Monday, June 11th is the start of renovations to the old junior high wings of George O. Barr, which currently houses the elementary school. The $6 million project will take place all year long so it's ready for students by next spring.

The last phase of this major makeover will be demolishing the old elementary school part of George O. Barr next summer and turning the space into a parking lot.

Because of all the construction, Superintendent Ray Bergles is holding a meeting Monday night to update parents and neighbors on the project and the construction that will surround the school. The meeting starts at 6:30pm in the George O. Barr cafeteria.

Superintendent Bergles is also going to talk about a big sale coming up at the end of June. Right now, the school's bus garages are full of old tables, desks, bookcases, chairs, and more. The Silvis School District is reusing what it can and giving some items to the East Moline Elementary School District. School leaders plan to sell whatever is left for as little as $5 a piece on June 22nd from 9am-2pm.
