Iowa Governor Terry Branstad unveiled a new program that helps employers find qualified applicants and helps job seekers be more qualified was unveiled Monday, June 11, 2012.

The Skilled Iowa Initiative will be administered through Iowa Workforce Development using a tool called the National Career Readiness Certificate.  The tool helps employers determine what skills are necessary for jobs they offer, and it helps job seekers improve their skills to meet those needs.

It awards a National Career Readiness Certificate to those who complete the program.

Skilled Iowa will encourage employers across the state to hire certificate holders to help reduce turnover and time spent on-the-job training.

Ultimately, the program goal is to match skilled Iowa workers with current and future jobs in the state.
