It was a sea of pink in the Quad Cities Saturday as almost 9,000 runners and walkers took part in the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure.
The 5K stretched through downtown Moline, starting at the i-wireless center.
The race memorializes those lost to breast cancer, and those who are fighting the disease.
It’s a day many look forward to all year long, including one Quad City woman whose mom spent a good portion of her live battling the disease.
“She was diagnosed with breast cancer when she was 43 and lived for 20 years with breast cancer,” said Cindy Roach “So, it’s a personal cause for my family.”
Since 1993, Quad Cities Race for the Cure has raised more than $4.58 million.
The organization says up to 75 percent of those funds have been used for local programs, with 25 percent used to fund breast cancer research.
