Zoo officials say the newest member of the giraffe family will be out for viewing by the end of the week of June 4.
Twiga, a six-year-old female giraffe at Niabi Zoo, gave birth to a 152-pound baby boy at 2:59 a.m. Saturday, June 2, 2012. Twiga was pregnant for about 14 months before she gave birth to the six-feet-tall baby.
Interim zoo director Marc Heinzman said the zoo will hold a contest to name the new baby, just like it did for Miya. Miya was born to Mimi in September 2011.
Kenya, a six-year-old male, fathered the newest addition to the giraffe herd.
