Fundraiser held for man with cancer

The Quad City community proves, once again, it’s a very generous place.

The Quad City community proves, once again, it's a very generous place.

Corey Wakeland, 40, was recently diagnosed with liver cancer and according to a Facebook page set up in his honor, he doesn't know how he got this tumor.

The doctor said a cell must have copied his DNA wrong and made a mistake that caused the cancer.

A benefit was held Sunday at The Rusty Nail in Davenport.

Organizers say it’s especially needed given Corey’s financial situation.

"I hope there's a lot of people who come out today,” said Sue Otero, Corey’s aunt. “We have a lot going on and we really need as much help with Corey as possible with his medical care and just day-to-day finances."

Corey has two children, Spencer, 11, and Alexis, 9.
