Bettendorf Motorcyclist Killed in Early Morning Crash

Police say a 41-year-old Bettendorf man was killed when his motorcycle collided with a pick-up truck early Tuesday, May 29th, 2012.

UPDATED - Police say the name of the Bettendorf man who was killed when his motorcycle collided with a pick-up truck early Tuesday morning is 41-year-old Vanzie Jackson II.

Mr. Jackson was a motorcycle enthusiast.  Wiebler's Harley-Davidson posted about his passing on their business' Facebook page.

"It is with great regret that we inform you of the loss of a great friend and Wieblers Harley-Davidson family member," the post said.  "Wiebler’s greatly appreciates the past two years we had with Vanzie and will miss him dearly. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends."

The driver of the pick-up truck is 24-year-old Adam G. Sotomayer from Bettendorf. He has been arrested and is charged with: Vehicular Homicide (Intoxicated), Driving Left of Center, Driving While Under Suspension, No Insurance, Possession of Drug Paraphernalia. Sotomayer remains in custody at the Scott County Jail. His bond is set at $26,200.

DAVENPORT, Iowa -- Police say a 41-year-old Bettendorf man was killed when his motorcycle collided with a pick-up truck early Tuesday, May 29th, 2012.

Captain David Struckman with the Davenport Police Department says the accident happened around 2:47 a.m. on East 53rd Street just east of Elmore Avenue.

Investigators say the motorcycle was traveling westbound when it was struck head-on by an eastbound pick-up truck which crossed the center line.

East 53rd Street between Elmore Avenue and Interstate 74 was shut down for a couple of hours this morning as crews cleaned up the accident began investigating what happened. As of 7:00 a.m., that section of 53rd Street was open to one lane of traffic in each direction.
