Work to paint the I-74 Bridge began in earnest Tuesday, May 22, 2012.
The resulting backup left frustrated motorists at a standstill as they tried to approach the bridge on the eastbound lanes of I-74 mid-morning.
The eastbound lanes of I-74 were reduced to one open lane between U.S. 67 and the exit to Grant and State streets.
The entrance ramp to the bridge was also closed.
The work was expected to affect traffic until about 3 p.m. Tuesday.
