Colchester man killed in McDonough County crash

An allegedly intoxicated driver ran a stop sign and crashed into another car, killing the front-seat passenger in Scotland Township.

An allegedly intoxicated driver ran a stop sign and crashed into another car, killing the front-seat passenger in Scotland Township.

Police said Jeremy Barclay, 22, of Colchester, Illinois was westbound on 1050N when he failed to obey a stop sign.  When he ran the sign, Barclay’s F150 truck struck the passenger side of a car traveling northbound on 1300N.

The car was driven by 30-year-old Jeffrey Tones.  He and his passenger, 34-year-old Gregory Bunnell, are also from Colchester.

Bunnell “was killed as a result of the crash” according to the Illinois State Police crash report.

Tones and Barclay were both taken by ambulance to an area hospital.

Barclay was charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, disobeying a stop sign and no insurance.
