Court: Iowa teen told others he killed his grandparents

Police released the cause of death after a court determined a teen charged with killing his grandparents will be tried as an adult. 

Isaiah Sweet faces two counts of first-degree murder in connection with the deaths of Janet and Richard Sweet.   Their bodies were found by relatives who arrived at their Manchester, Iowa home for a Mother’s Day gathering.

A complaint filed in Delaware County District Court states Sweet told people he had killed his grandparents.  Sweet allegedly told at least one person he had drugged the couple.  

Iowa State Police announced Wednesday, May 16, that autopsies showed Janet and Richard Sweet died of gunshot wounds. 

Isaiah Sweet reportedly lived with his grandparents prior to their deaths.

Sweet was held on $1 million cash bond.  He is next scheduled to appear in court May 25, 2012.
