LIST: Top baby names in Iowa, Illinois and the U.S.

The Social Security Administration released its list of the top baby names by state and for the entire U.S.

The list, based on baby names chosen in 2010 and 2011, was made public Monday, May 14, 2012.

The SSA website also lists popular names for any year you choose, and you can see how popular names have changed over time. 

In the U.S., these were the top ten baby names for boys in 2011:

1.  Jacob
2. Mason
3. William
4. Jayden
5. Noah
6. Michael
7. Ethan
8. Alexander
9. Aiden
10. Daniel

And these were the top ten baby names for girls in 2011:

1. Sophia
2. Isabella
3. Emma
4. Olivia
5. Ava
6. Emily
7. Abigail
8. Madison
9. Mia
10. Chloe

In Iowa, these were the most popular names for boys in 2010:

1. Noah (181 babies with this name)
2. Mason (180)
3. Ethan (178)

10. Logan (155)
