(CNN) — It looks like “Grey’s Anatomy” fans will have a some good news to hold them over as they await the new season.

Despite previous concerns over contract negotiations, Deadline reports that all of the original cast members on “Grey’s” are close to signing on to return for another two rounds of the long-running show.

When the ink is dry, Patrick Dempsey, Ellen Pompeo, Sandra Oh, Justin Chambers, Chandra Wilson and James Pickens, Jr. will be ready to reoccupy their dressing rooms – something show creator Shonda Rimes wasn’t sure would ever happen.

To that end, she’s said to have scripted the upcoming eighth season finale with their potential departure in mind. Sounds like it’s back to the drawing board for the May 17 season closer.

New contracts are seen as paving the way for the hit medical drama to be renewed for a ninth season, which would be a win-win for everyone involved, particularly the fans.
