Woman dies in Savanna house fire

A Savanna, Illinois woman was pronounced dead after her body was pulled from a burning house Tuesday, May 8, 2012.

Firefighters were called to a house fire reported in the 4300 block of Deihl Road just after 6:30 p.m.

A 911 caller reportedly told emergency workers an elderly woman was still inside the burning home.

Fire Chief Shawn Picolotti said the fire department arrived at the home within nine minutes of receiving the call.

Firefighters “quickly removed the victim.  She was pronounced dead by the county coroner,” said Chief Picolotti.

The woman was later identified as Leona Knuth.

The fire was contained to the kitchen and porch areas of the home.  The cause of the fire remained under investigation.
