DES MOINES, Iowa - Farmers who have finished planting corn can now turn their attention to the soybean crop.
While Iowa's corn crop is way ahead of schedule its soybean planting is lagging.
About seven percent of the crop has been planted. That's about the same as last year but is behind the five year average of 11%.
Farmers in Keokuk., Mt. Pleasant, and southeast Iowa are ahead of other regions in the state. In that area, 14% of the soybean crop is now planted.
Illinois Soybean Farmers Ahead of Schedule
On the other hand, the Illinois soybean crop is way ahead of schedule. Almost a quarter of the crop is planted statewide (21%). About 12-percent of the crop in northwest Illinois is already in the ground.
