Fire damaged the John Westwick Foundry building in Galena, Illinois on Tuesday, May 8, 2012.
Witnesses at nearby businesses in Galena described the blaze as “massive”.
The fire was reported at about 1 p.m. and burned for several hours during the afternoon at the metal foundry building, located at Claude and Meeker streets.
Galena Fire Chief Mike Simmons said the fire started in the grinding room at the foundry. A large amount of wood castings, or patterns, caught fire as well.
Simmons said firefighters were able to contain the fire to the north side of the building and keep it out of the office area.
No injuries were reported.
