A multi-vehicle crash closed the eastbound lanes of Interstate 74 for nearly an hour, slowing morning commuters Thursday, May 3, 2012.

The wreck was reported around 6:30 a.m. on the Illinois-bound lanes of I-74 at the Lincoln Road overpass, between the Middle Road and Kimberly Road exits.

At least three vehicles were involved and it appeared that emergency responders had to cut through the body of one vehicle to free those inside.  Multiple injuries were reported.

At one point, the backup on I-74 nearly reached 53rd Street.

All lanes were open and most of the wreckage cleared just before 7:30 a.m.
