Original story from April 27, 2012:

A Quad Cities teacher is nominated for LIVE! with Kelly's annual Top Teacher award.

Wendy Martin, science teacher at Assumption High School in Davenport, is one of 12 finalists in the search for the nation's best teachers.

Her nomination letter is posted on the ABC show's website. Here is an excerpt.

"A modern day "Bill Nye the Science Girl", Wendy Martin personifies all that is teacher, woman, mother, and science. Truly giving meaning to Nyes catch phrase Science Rules! Mrs. Martin not only drives students to excel academically, but instills a passion for the often detested subject. Teaching at the high school level is a complex occupation. It is a delicate task of balancing instruction, respect, care, and creating an environment where students are comfortable and want to succeed. Mrs. Martin does this PERFECTLY."

Online voting started Friday, April 27th and continues until 2pm on Monday, April 30th. During that time, People are allowed to vote once a day for their favorites. The 5 Top Teachers, who receive the most votes, will become our finalists. Those names will be announced on May 1st.
