Ag in the AM: Iowa’s slow corn start
DES MOINES, Iowa – The weather last week kept Iowa farmers out of the fields.
A survey of Iowa farmers found growers in the state had less than two good days for planting last week.
So far, nine percent of the Iowa corn crop is now in the ground.
Progress is much faster in Illinois where 59-percent of the corn crop is planted and almost a quarter of the crop has emerged.
Farmers in both states say soil moisture has improved after rains last week.
