The Silvis School District opened the doors of its new junior high school Thursday. A dedication ceremony was held before parents were allowed to tour the school.

The most noticeable things when you walk in are the brightly colored walls and the open layout. The school was designed for a different teaching style, where students can get out of the classroom and do more group problem solving.

The district waited years to break ground on the school. It wasn't until Governor Pat Quinn allocated more than 6 million dollars to public schools that Silvis was able to break ground.

Class starts at the school in August. The district's next project is to renovate the elementary school.
