Ag in the AM: Corn Planting Progresses

Iowa’s corn planting is just getting started, but almost half of the corn is already planted in Illinois

DES MOINES, Iowa - Iowa's corn planting is just getting started, but almost half of the corn is already planted in Illinois.

The latest crop report shows 47-percent of farmers in northwest illinois, including the Quad City area, have their corn planted. That's ahead of the statewide average of 41-percent and way ahead of both last year and the five year average.

In Iowa, only five percent of the crop is in the ground.  Farmers in eastern iowa are trailing that average by a little bit.

Oats Farmers Nearly Finished

Almost the entire oats crop is planted in our area of Iowa and Illinois.  Oats farmers are way ahead of last year when they were just gettting started out in the fields at this point in the season.

Most farmers in both Iowa and Illinois say their soil moisture is good and weekend rains made it better.
