Ag in the AM: Vilsack Optimistic on Farm Bill

U.S. Agriculture Department Secretary Tom Vilsack says he expects a Farm Bill to pass the Senate by early this summer

WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Agriculture Department Secretary Tom Vilsack says he expects a Farm Bill to pass the Senate by early this summer.

Congress has been holding hearings on the new bill, including a House Committee session held last month in Galesburg.

Secretary Vilsack says it`s possible to have legislation approved by Congress before the current Farm Bill expires in September.

He says he expects the new Farm Bill will continue federal support for crop insurance and offer some type of safety net program to supplement crop insurance revenue.
