Senior member of RICO Board passes away

The senior member of the Rock Island County Board passed away Thursday morning, April 12, 2012.

William “Bill” Armstrong served on the Rock Island County Board as the representative of District 8 since December 1978.

The Rock Island County Democratic Central Committee website said Mr. Armstrong graduated from Geneseo High School and Illinois State University.  He taught at Rock Island High School for 34 years.

Mr. Armstrong was a member of Sacred Heart Church in Moline, the Moline American Legion and the ACLU.

During his tenure on the board, Mr. Armstrong served on every committee of the board, chairing several of those committees, and he served ans Chairman of the County Board from May 1998 to November 2002.

“Mr. Armstrong effortlessly treated everyone fairly and respectfully.  His knowledge of constitutional facts, procedures and policies made him a desired member of committees and boards.  He actively participated in the process and served our community well,” said County Board Chairman James Bohnsack.

Mr. Armstrong leaves behind his wife, Dorothy, their two children and seven grandchildren.
