Police said the driver of a vehicle that didn’t stop for police in Moline and in Bettendorf eventually crashed and ran from the police before being arrested.

It all started around 7:30 p.m. Monday, April 9, 2012 when Moline Police reportedly followed the car into Bettendorf.

When a marked Bettendorf squad car couldn’t get the vehicle to stop, police said they saw the driver dump a baggy full of white powder out the window.

The suspect car eventually went southbound on Devils Glen Road where it crashed into a van and stopped.

Police said the passenger was taken into custody there but the driver ran.  Police said they used a heat sensor to find the driver hiding in the woods east of the crash scene.

Cody Baker, 26, of East Moline, Illinois was arrested.  Online jail records showed Baker was facing seven possible misdemeanor charges:  careless driving, driving the wrong way, eluding, reckless driving, speeding, failing to stop or yield at a highway and failing to comply with a traffic control device.

Baker was held in the Scott County Jail.  His passenger was not charged.
