It's still 3 months away, but hundreds of charities in the Quad City area are ready for the pros to tee off for the 2012 John Deere Classic.

On Tuesday, April 10, 2012, Birdies for Charity launched its fundraising season at the John Deere Pavilion in downtown, Moline. Interested charities can pick up pledge forms until 1 p.m. today at the John Deere Pavilion or find more information at http://www.birdiesforcharity.com/.

Every "one-under par" shot, or birdie, during the July tournament raises money for non-for-profit organizations around our area. People can make pledges, like $1 a birdie, to raise money for the charity of their choice and they can also try to guess exactly how many birdies there will be after the week is over. If they guess the right number, they have a chance to win a 2013 Chevy Malibu.

"The main benefit is [charities] get 100% back of every pledge dollar designated for them and then on top of that, they get a bonus from the Birdies for Charity and the revenues from the John Deere Classic so last year, on top of their 100% back, they also got an 8% bonus," said Kristy Ketcham-Jackson, Director of Birdies for Charity during a press conference this morning.

Last year was one of the John Deere Classic's most successful years. Nearly $5.3 million was raised for more than 500 participating non-for-profits.
