Ag in the AM: Iowa Corn Farmers Wait for Wednesday

April 11th is the earliest date for Iowa corn planting and still get covered by federal crop insurance programs

DES MOINES, Iowa- Expect Iowa corn farmers to hit the fields tomorrow.

April 11th is the earliest date for corn planting and still get covered by federal crop insurance programs.

Illinois farmers have already been hitting the fields.   About 17-percent of the Illinois corn crop is already planted and even two percent of the crop is emerging.   In Iowa, about one percent of corn farmers took the risk and have already planted in the fields.

It's a different story for the oats crop in both states.

91-percent of the Illinois oat crop is now planted with three quarters of the Iowa crop in the ground.   About a quarter of the Iowa oats crop is already emerging.
