Water Main Break

A boil advisory was issued for businesses and residents near Kimberly Road and Eastern Avenue after a water main broke early Wednesday, March 28, 2012.  Read that story – click here.

Traffic was slowed and some lanes were closed Wednesday.

Crews were expected to begin pouring concrete to repair the road Thursday morning.  Their work may be slowed after initial reports of a second water main break at the same intersection Thursday morning.

Crews later determined the water they were seeing was part of the initial water main break, and not the result of a second break.  More lanes had to be closed to allow for ongoing repair work.

This time all eastbound lanes of Kimberly Road were closed at Eastern Avenue.  Motorists were being detoured onto Eastern Avenue, but northbound lanes were closed at 32ndStreet.  Northbound traffic is detoured east to Spring Street.

“Motorists are advised to avoid this area if at all possible,” said a statement from the City of Davenport.  “If travel through the area cannot be avoided, please use caution and be prepared for delays.”

The boil advisory which was expected to expire at 8 p.m. Thursday was extended to Friday.  City officials did not have an exact expiration time for the boil advisory, which impacted about 25 residences and several businesses at the intersection, including the Burke Cleaners, Walgreen’s and HyVee stores.
