The Mega Millions jackpot is close to breaking a record at $363 million for Tuesday night’s drawing.
Five people from Illinois won second-place prizes in the drawing Friday, March 23, 2012 but no one won the $290 million jackpot.
That sent Tuesday’s jackpot to $363 million with a cash option of $259 million.
The record jackpot for Mega Millions is $390 million. Two winners split that jackpot in March 2007.
The last winning Mega Millions jackpot ticket was sold January 24, 2012 in Georgia. That ticket was worth $72 million.
Forty-two states, plus the District of Columbia and the U.S. Virgin Islands, participate in the Mega Millions lottery.
The next drawing for Mega Millions is Tuesday, March 27, 2012 at 10 p.m. Central time.
