Quad Cities-area handymen and construction contractors are being warned of a scam from a company claiming to offer local job leads.
The Better Business Bureau says Contracting Crews, which also goes by several other names, promises to offer job leads to contractors, handymen and trade professionals interested in commercial and residential projects.
“Contracting Crews will send trade professionals weekly projects to fill the gaps in labor shortages that have forced many tradesmen out of work and into debt,” according to the company website.
The company offers the “free” service for a one-time registration fee of $99.
Customers are reporting that after they pay the $99 they cannot contact the company.
The BBB in California says some complaints claim the contractors are receiving phony leads on addresses of vacant lots or abandoned buildings.
Contracting Crews, also known as All Crews Now, has an F rating with the BBB in California after more than 100 complaints were filed against the company.
The company also uses aliases of Contractor Support Management, Contractor Support, Contractor Management LLC, The Contractor 411, Contractor Support Online and Commercial Crews.
Contracting Crews claims to be located in West Des Moines, Iowa but mail sent to the company address is returned undeliverable according to the BBB. The phone number listed on the company website is actually a landline in Texas.
