UPDATED March 19:  Police said one person died and another was airlifted to a hospital after both were shot in Burlington, Iowa.

The sound of shots fired was reported to police at about 10 p.m. Friday, March 16, 2012.  Officers were sent to 165 S. Central Avenue to investigate.  That location is near the shopping area at S. Central and Division Street.

Police said one person was pronounced dead at the scene.  On Monday, March 19, police released that man’s identity.  He is 22-year-old Terrell Robert Miller.  Police said Miller suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his head.

The second shooting victim, 28-year-old Jacqueline Williams, was taken by ambulance to an area hospital and later airlifted to a hospital in Iowa City.  Police initially said that person’s injury appears to be non-life-threatening.  On Monday, March 19, police said Williams had suffered a single gunshot wound to her head.

Police said Miller and Williams appeared to be the only persons involved in the incident, and a gun was recovered at the scene of the shootings.  The exact circumstances that led to the shootings were not yet released by police.
