UPDATED: Scott County, Iowa fire chiefs have joined together to issue a county-wide ban on outdoor burning effective immediately.
The ban was ordered Wednesday afternoon, March 14, 2012.
“Due to the extremely dry conditions, the chiefs are requesting this ban be in effect until measurable rainfall is experienced,” said a statement from Scott County Emergency Management coordinator Ross Bergen.
Violating the burn ban is a simple misdemeanor.
The ban does not prohibit use of outdoor fireplaces, barbecue grills, properly supervised landfills, or the burning of trash in incinerators or trash burners made of metal, concrete, masonry, or heavy one-inch wire mesh as long as the mesh openings are not greater than one square inch.
Dry conditions are expected to persist in our area with minimal rain chances expected for the rest of the week.
