Pollock mural leaving Figge

After nearly three years at the Figge, Jackson Pollock’s Mural is leaving in late March to go on display at the Des Moines Art Center.

Mural has been on display at the Figge Art Museum since 2009.  Museum officials say more than 150,000 people have seen the work at the Figge since it, and many other items from the University of Iowa Museum of Art, were moved there in 2008 during a historic flood on the Iowa River.   The river runs through the University of Iowa campus and inundated the former UIMA building.

“The Figge Art Museum was honored to be able to display such a significant painting for the last three years for the benefit of our community. We’ll be sad to see it leave later this month. At the same time, we’re excited for the opportunity to be able to display more of the outstanding objects in the University of Iowa Museum of Art’s collection, which will continue to be housed here at the Figge,” says Figge Interim Director and Chief Financial Officer Todd Woeber.

Mural will be on display at the Figge until March 25, 2012.  Two 30-minute talks about Mural will be held at the Figge Sunday, March 18 at 1:30 and 2:30 p.m.
