Early Voting Starts in Illinois

Monday, February 27th, is the first day of early voting for Illinois' primary election, which takes place March 20th.

Nominating contests include representatives in the Illinois House and Senate, county offices, and congressional races.

This election is a little different than in years past because of the redistricting that took place last year following new U.S. Census data. Because Illinois' population went down, the state lost one congressional seat.

If you vote early, you need to make sure you're registered and show a valid photo ID, such as a driver's license or state-issued ID card. Also, if you decide to vote early, you can't vote on Election Day or cancel your ballot if you change your mind.

There are also a lot of advantages to voting early. You don't have to stand in long lines on Election Day and you can be sure your vote counts right away.

"It's very important to our country and our community that you get out and vote," says Karen Kinney, Rock Island County Clerk. "There are many issues on the table right now that you should take a stand on one way or the other because if you don't vote, don't complain."

You can vote early at the Rock Island County Clerk's Office or wait until the county's voter trolley is in your neighborhood. You can find more information, including a complete schedule of the voter trolley, under the Big Red Box at WQAD.com.
