It started when Geneseo Police officers stopped a black Chevrolet Impala, driven by Roger Foust of Garden City, Iowa. Police said the vehicle’s registration light was not working and the license plate was obstructed.
The stop happened at Route 82 and the entrance ramp to eastbound Interstate 80 at about 11 p.m. Sunday, February 12, 2012.
Police said Foust resisted and fought with officers when they tried to pat him down.
Despite being Tasered during the struggle, Foust managed to get into his car and drive away. Police said he rear-ended a police car as he left the scene of the traffic stop.
Geneseo Police pursued Foust eastbound on I-80 to Annawan, Illinois. That’s where Foust allegedly turned around and headed westbound on I-80.
Henry County deputies joined the pursuit. “Stop sticks” were deployed twice but Foust avoided them.
Foust allegedly continued west on I-80 to LeClaire, Iowa where police again deployed stop sticks. The pursuit ended just west of the Mississippi River at the 304 mile marker.
No injuries were reported in the struggle or the pursuit. Damage to the police vehicle was reportedly minor.
Foust was arrested by Iowa State Police and charged with eluding police, reckless driving and speeding. He faces additional charges of aggravated assault, resisting police, felony fleeing and eluding and felony damage to state property in Henry County, Illinois.
Foust was held in the Scott County Jail.
