As the days grow closer to the June 5th primary election, the economy will continue to be a top issue in Iowa’s 2nd Congressional District.
That’s where Republican John Archer is squaring off against housing developer Dan Dolan, machinist Richard Gates and Burlington’s Bob Huppenbauer.
There will be plenty of campaigning leading up to the primary.
Archer, who is a lawyer for Deere & Company, made a stop in his home turf of Bettendorf on Friday. Over the weekend, he’s off to Pella and Iowa City.
The newly redrawn district will also now include the Quad Cities.
“Today’s job report at 8.3% is encouraging,” Archer said, during a stop at Sivyer Steel Corporation. “I hope we continue to move that way for the sake of these hundreds of thousands if not millions of Americans who are still out of work.”
The winner of the Republican Primary will take on incumbent Rep. Dave Loebsack in November.
“Even as the private sector added jobs, Washington has yet to get its act together,” Rep. Loebsack said. “After a year of political brinksmanship, I was hopeful Congress would be able to come together and find a way to grow the economy and create jobs. Unfortunately, we have only seen many of the same games, and the economy will not truly recover until it is provided the support it needs.”
