DAVENPORT, Iowa – A postal worker who allowed drug conspirators to store at least 1,000 kilograms of marijuana in his home has been sentenced for maintaining a drug house.
On Thursday, January 26th, Roger Dengler, 55, of Davenport was sentenced to 78 months in prison for maintaining a drug house.
According to United States Attorney Nicholas A. Kinefeldt, during the summer of 2006, drug enforcement authorities conducted an investigation into the distribution of marijuana and cocaine in the Davenport area after they seized 80 pounds of marijuana from a hotel.
During the investigation, police learned that Dengler, who worked for the United State Postal Service for 36 years, was allowing member of a drug conspiracy to use his home for cocaine and marijuana storage.
Drug traffickers were transporting marijuana from Denver, Colorado to Dengler’s home by concealing the substance in tires.
The cocaine was also shipped from Denver, although the press release did not release details revealing how the drug was transported or concealed from authorities.
After the drugs made it to Davenport, Dengler as well as other members of the conspiracy would retrieve the marijuana from the tires, weight it, repackage it, and then distribute it in the area.
After the arrival of the shipment, the drugs would be stored in Dengler’s home. In exchange for his storage services, Dengler would receive cocaine and marijuana as payment.
During the course of the conspiracy, Dengler stored at least 1,000 kilograms of marijuana in his home.
Dengler pleaded guilty on March 7th, 2011.
