GALESBURG, Ill.—Police say a 31-year-old woman lost teeth, suffered skull fractures and had bleeding on her brain as a result of being beaten by a man at her Galesburg, Illinois home.

Police were called to the home in the 200 block of Whitesboro Street just after 2 p.m. Saturday, January 21, 2012.  They arrived to find the woman covered in bruises on her face, head, arms, shoulders, chest and legs.  Her eyes were reportedly both black and swollen shut.

Blood was found on furniture, on the floor, on a towel, on a rug and on clothing police found in the home.

The woman was airlifted to a Peoria hospital for treatment.

Police arrested 46-year-old Sterling Nicholson at a friend’s home in the 500 block of Day Street.  Police said Nicholson’s right hand was swollen and that there was blood on Nicholson’s chest.

Nicholson was charged with attempted murder, aggravated domestic battery and aggravated battery causing great bodily harm.  He was held in the Knox County Jail.
